Mickey is, generally speaking, just as nice and polite and well-behaved as he comes off as being. He tends to keep to himself, quiet and soft spoken, but has a habit of babbling when he's nervous. While he has his fair share of problems, he is probably the only member of the Student Council that is not trying to hide some deep dark secret and often acts far more mature then his upperclassmen associates.

However, he seems frustrated a lot of the time. Much of it comes from his twin sister, who over the years has grown more and more obsessed with him while simultaneously rejecting the sort of person he is and expects her to be. She deliberately acts out, often by making out with boys Mickey would never approve of in order to get his attention.

They live alone, and because of this Mickey feels obliged to take care of Kozue, but is hampered by his inability to control her actions and his stubborn refusal to understand why she isn't, and can never be, the idealised perfect sister he believes he had in his youth. In fact, Kozue actually considers it her responsibility to look after him, as she considers Mickey naive and prone to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous peers and professors.

Mickey is also confounded somewhat by the longings that puberty has instilled in him and like the majority of the cast, he is shown to have both same-sex as well as opposite-sex attractions. A situation not helped much by the heavy hints Kozue keeps dropping that she'd like to be the one to satisfy those urges. Along with his experience with his piano teacher, he also has a deep-rooted distrust in adults stemming from his own parents and how they both split apart and left him and Kozue to raise themselves. While he is polite to them he doesn't look to them for guidance, and also gets defensive if he feels he's being selfishly ordered around by other adults.

A curious trait of Mickey's is his famous stopwatch habit. He appears to be timing everything, and he is obviously the Student Council scribe, using his stopwatch to record the minutes. He also likes to click it before something dramatic is said, and quite possibly he uses the stopwatch to time how long Touga can keep his libido under control.

I just want to find my shining thing. Maybe someday....
